University life #1
Today, we had a student-led discussion which was about what international students can do when they feel lonely. Jimmy, Kevin and I were the leaders in this discussion. During the discussion, we also talked about how to get rid of loneness with the participators.
Most of the people go through some lonely times in their lives. Perhaps you move to a new place, or maybe you have just never been really good at making friends. The point is, people get lonely and don’t know what to do. In this discussion, we shared our opinions. One girl said that she would call her friends and chat on the internet with her Korean and Canadian friends. Another boy said that he actually doesn't feel lonely because he could watch movies, call his friends and now he study English at most of the time when he is alone or stays at home. Some people said we could travel around Toronto because we need to know our new surrounding.
In my opinion, when we move a new country we could find many ways to enjoy our lives and to try novelty. We could start to make friends from other countries, join clubs, watch movies, read books, etc…Even though we are a lone, we also can have a delectable time. However, whatever we do to deal with loneness, we should keep in touch with our family. “There is no place like home”.
It was the second time for me to be a student-led discussion leader, but I still felt a little bit nervous, maybe because we didn’t prepare well, but I do enjoy this discussion with the participators. I appreciate for their coming to join with us.

Hi Doris,
I finally found you. I think that you discussion was quite successful. You had some good discussion even if there were not many people. I think that loneliness is not a problem if you keep yourself busy. I also think that everyone whether at home or in another country gets lonely sometimes. It's just that in the beginning, you have to make the effort to meet new people. That's what makes people think that they are lonely. They miss the comfort of the friends and family that they have left. I agree with you however, that there are lots of things that you can try out. It's a good way to learn more about yourself - your interests, strengths and values.
Cheers,
Lynne
